OSBORNE ADVENTURE - A GLOBAL SAILING EXPEDITION For DOwn Syndrome AWARENESS

When you tell people your family of five is preparing to embark on a three-year global sailing expedition to attempt three Guinness World Records to raise awareness for Down syndrome including:

  • First Person with Down Syndrome to Circumnavigate by Sailboat

  • First Person with Down Syndrome to Sail to Antarctica

  • First Person with Down Syndrome to Sail from the Arctic Circle to Antarctica

Their first reaction isn't always, “That’s the best idea I have ever heard!” For us, we are often greeted with looks of horror and awkward silence… until they meet Ren.

THE MISSION

Osborne Adventure is a 501c3 nonprofit and our mission is to challenge stereotypes while empowering individuals and families to embrace a world of possibilities. We hope our record-breaking achievements and global sailing expedition will prove Down Syndrome is not a limitation, but instead an incredible source of beauty, love, and inspiration. We are striving to inspire a more inclusive society by showing one’s value regardless of their diagnosis.

PHASE ONE

In November 2025 we will be setting sail on an epic 36,000-mile global circumnavigation. The World Record setting expedition will exemplify our belief that the impossible is possible. Through our family’s adventures, we will have the opportunity to share the challenges, triumphs, and beauty of raising a child with Down Syndrome. We also hope to embody the benefits of letting children be children, allowing them to take risks, and adventure-based parenting with or without a diagnosis.

PHASE TWO

Sailing is a life-changing experience, one that builds confidence, teamwork, and a personal sense of accomplishment. Following our circumnavigation, our dream is for Osborne Adventure to provide the Down Syndrome community with the opportunity to come and sail with us as crew members! We believe that sailing with peers will create lifelong friendships, a sense of belonging, and foster a spirit of adventure. We will use our personal experiences and knowledge to create a safe environment for our crew members to find their sea legs while forming lifelong memories.
